Toe nail fungus?

what works better to treat it... listerine? or tea tree oil? and how often did you apply it and how did you apply it?Toe nail fungus?
I had a fungus in my thumb and it was so sore I soaked the gauze in tea tree oil and then wrapped it up real good and it stinks and went to bed and woke up next morn and my thumb was not as sore it may take a few times but it works real good just don't put it on open sore. Mine has never came back and went to doc and he gave me medicine that was very expensive and was bad for my liver so I read about TT and I would swear by it . Try it.Toe nail fungus?
Both can be beneficial.

Tea tree oil is a potent natural antiseptic and fungicide that will help fight your fungus. Apply undiluted tea tree oil with olive oil to the affected toe nail. Alternatively you can put few drops of tea tree oil on toenails and rub it thoroughly every day.

Using Listerine mouthwash. Soak your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toe nails looking healthy.

Curing toe nail fungus using warm water and natural apple cider vinegar. Soak your toenails for 15 - 20 minutes in basin full of warm water and natural apple cider vinegar mixed in equal proportion. When done, dry your toenails thoroughly. Use a hair dryer on warm setting to absorb all the moisture in and around the toes.
Tea Tree oil is antifungal. It can burn. I would use it as often as I could daily for about one month past when I thought the fungus was all cleared up. And be sure and treat the inside of your shoes so you don't get the fungus back from them.
The only way to treat it is to see a dermatologist who will give you anti-fungal medication in prescription strength to kill it. Otherwise, it will keep coming back and can spread to your fingernails as well.

Don't put nail polish on when you have nail fungus!.

What works good is over the counter ';Fungi Nail';.

Make sure next time you cut or clip your nails that you sterilize the clippers or scissors first by soaking them in alcohol. I had to learn that the hard way too.Help with nail fungus?? URGENT?

Toe Nail Fungus Question !?

I have had a big toenail fungus infection for a few years now. I was wondering if it was true that if one toe nail is infected with fungus that all my toenails in both feet are infected as well ? Now im worried since none of my other toes have anything but im afraid they will ! Thanks.Toe Nail Fungus Question !?
If over the counter treatments aren't working (and there are some great, potent treatments in your local pharmacy) then you need to see a doctor ASAP. Yes, toe nail fungi can spread to your other nails and you can lose your toe nails. You really don't want that!!! Trust me. Been there. It takes a LONG time to grow back, even for those whose toe nails grow quickly. Check out the website below for more info!

~ Best Wishes!!!Toe Nail Fungus Question !?
Good question. It really depends on which doctor you ask but I experienced something similar to this and my doctor said that, yes indeed the rest of my nails were infected but were not yet showing outright signs of the infection. My friend however had an opposite experience. She had it in one toenail and after using the same solution I did, hers went away without the others getting inflamed. I found all the help I need from http://www.my-nail-fungus-story.com which had a lot of information and simple solutions. Check it out and let me know what you think.
you have to be carefull coz yes it can spread to other nails, but i think is in 2 yers it didnt spread ...i belive its gone so youre good...

All the medicines have bad side effects......Natural remedy for toe-nail fungus?
you definitely need to get rid of fungus!

for me worked very well ZetaClear! I think it is the fastest way to get rid of fungus! Nail fungus is tough to treat. The extracts in Zetaclear provide the most powerful therapeutic effect for healthy looking nails.

Obviously, you can't spray herbicide on your feet or hands! The next best thing is Zetaclear. It's made from all-natural homeopathic ingredients. This product works time after time and results are guaranteed. This extra strength solution is designed to be as aggressive and strong as possible, without causing irritation.

It worked fast and still works for me!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry ZetaClear but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.zetaclear.com/?aid=749165Natural remedy for toe-nail fungus?
The only natural remedy I've heard of, is the twice daily application of Tea Tree Oil, which may be purchased (without a prescription) at most pharmacies and natural food or health stores. Try looking in the aisle that has foot remedies, and if you are unable to find it, just ask one of the pharmacy employees or the pharmacist. Apply the oil to the infected area after bathing in the morning and before retiring at night. If you work out or engage in sports, be sure to protect your feet from reinfection by wearing slippers (your own - not ones provided by the gym) while walking throughout the locker room and while showering, then apply Tea Tree Oil to the infected area immediately after you shower.

A regular spray of diluted Tea Tree Oil is also said to aid in the prevention of contracting fungal infections, but there are no guarantees, and its use is not endorsed by the FDA.

Be patient. It usually takes several months to rid the infection. Once the fungal infection has subsided, add gelatin to your diet, in order to strengthen your toenails (and finger nails), so they might repair faster.

    Best of luck!
It is best tackled from within as external treatments often fail if the fungus has spread to most toes. If it is isolated to only one or two toes you could try one of those paints you can pick up at a pharmacy or get on prescription from your doctor.

Yes you are right there are treatments that are systemic [geared at the whole body] and they are in the form of a pill and your liver has to be monitored as they may cause damage to the liver. You could alternatively as a systemic treatment try olive leaf extract.

It is quite expensive so shop around for a good deal if you are interested.

The only known side-effect is supposed to be the possibility of a an allergic response caused by the rapid die-off of fungi that release toxins which may temporarily cause a brief allergic reaction that may occur over several days..[ref: link below] You would need to look out for symptoms and see your doctor asap if they made you unwell. In fact it is best to take them under consultation with your doctor so he or she can monitor you, including whether the treatment is working or not.

This website offers a testimonial from one who have taken olive leaf extract for toe nail fungus:

    http://www.seagateproducts.com/olive-lea…

But it is not a UK website. I would shop around the Internet for good deal but make sure you look for a reputable brand that is preferably standardised and of the strength 500mg or thereabouts. You may need to take 2-3 capsules a day for several months.
Yes, i agree that Tea Tree Oil may help although it doesn't always work. Pure Lavender Oil may also help.

Another good natural anti-fungal is Coconut Oil. The Lauric acid fights all types of infections, especially fungal.

    Best of luck :-)
I was watching Dr. Oz on Oprah the other day, and a lady had a bad toe-nail fungus and fungus around the nail. He told her to soak her feet in vinegar and/or to use tea tree oil.
Nothing was working for me until I started taking Acai supplement. I also used the oil from a Vitamin E capsule to help clear it up.
Vick's Vapor rub. It takes about 2 weeks. Rub it on the fungus a couple times a day.
Maybe rubbing some tea tree oil on your toes with a cotton swab at night will help.
tea tree oil around the nail, I even heard a Listerine bath

    Toe nail fungus?

My doctor gave me a prescription for toe nail fungus and it doesn't work. I have thick yellow nails. What esle can I use?Toe nail fungus?
You need to ask for a prescription for PENLAC 'nail lacquer' (Ciclopirox topical solution 8% w/w) that you apply directly on the affected nails. It takes a long time to rectify this problem though, so you should be patient. Go see a foot care specialist regularly to get your nails filed professionally and keep them as short as possible. It helps. The doctor told me I could expect it to take 6-8 months and it did.

I should warn you though, it's expensive.Toe nail fungus?
Nail fungus, is a condition that affects the nail of around 6% to 8% of the adult population. A change in colour, thickening of the nail, becoming brittle, or rippled nail may be a sign of nail fungus. But it can be cured.

I've heard of a woman who got an infection from a nail salon and actually died from it. I guess she had a sever allergic reaction to it.
arent toenails supposed to be all yellow and hard and smelly.....try biting them off after taking a hot shower then have a big P00P and smash it down the drain with your toes
Dragon balm or tiger balm. if you can't get either try to find T-Tree essential oil and apply a few drops diluted in oil to your feet. the oils are soaked into your skin and will get under you nails even if you can't put them there.

dragon balm is the only single application cure for stubborn athelets foot that i know of btu use for three or four nights to be safe

also the prescription may be working but your shoes reinfecting you; boil or bin them
Toenails grow very slowly. It takes about 6 months for the healthy nail to replace the infected parts, so you need to wait 6 months before you know whether the treatment has worked or not.
I got the right answer for you: TEA TREE OIL.

Ah, don麓t ask your doctor. You may spend the rest of your live going from one to the next and they麓ll never give the answer. They don麓t know what works, they just know how to sell pharmaceuticals. Their mind is squared.

Try it鈥?. There is nothing more difficult to eliminate that a nail fungus. You have to be patient. Use it every day and a couple of months you will see. It is very inexpensive, you can buy it for $5.00
It can take a very long time for medication to help with toe nail fungus. Sometimes it never goes away.
talk to ur doctor and tell him it doesnt work, he will give u something new.
Usually toe nail fungus is very hard to get rid of it. Some prescriptions that are given are fluconazole ( also known as diflucan) - this also is given for treatment to yeast infections and is usually given orally in a pill . or theres terbinafine ( lamisil) that can be given as a pill ( but with more severe side effects than fluconazole). Usually prescription needs to be for a good 3-6 months and if treatment stops the fungus will come back , since it needs to be completely gone. You can get lamisil over the counter as a cream and that too requires persistent taking of it for 3- 6 months. Both the pill flucanozole and lamisil work depending on the person, sometimes its up to the doctor. If your doctor is no help, its best to see a podiatrist who specializes in that area since they may know the severity or what kind of fungus it is exactly to better treat this. hope this helps.
be patient, it takes time for your new nails to grow out

Toe nail fungus...I have had it for years. Tried many prescriptions...?

My toe nail is whiteish, yellowish, brownish. I just cut it down as far as I could..have done this before but has not helped. In the middle of my nail underneath its not detached to the nail bed..like a space between the nail bed and the nail. I have tried vicks, prescriptions, cutting it down and nothing!!! What else can I do. I do not want to take lamisil etc....I want to put an acrylic nail over it because its sandal season!!! What can cure this ugly nail fungus!!! HELPPPPP please!Toe nail fungus...I have had it for years. Tried many prescriptions...?
Nail fungas (be it on the toes or fingers) is not easy to get rid of. It takes a long time of using the proper medications. If you have tried overcounter medication like funge off (available at beauty supply shops) then you need prescription medication.

Whatever you do you have to do it from six months to a year to get rid of the fungus. As I said it is difficult to get rid of.

I suggest going to your doctor. Lamisil is a good product and works great in most cases. It will should also work faster than over the counter medications because it is working from the inside instead of topically.

For faster treatment you could talk to your doctor and try using Lamisil as an oral medication and try using FungOff topically (I would not do this without your doctors knowledge or approval as it could be too much mecidation and cause more damage to the nail and not cure the problem).

Good luckToe nail fungus...I have had it for years. Tried many prescriptions...?

Go to your family doctor or a podiatrist. There is a prescription medication that you coat the nail with, it is clear and it will stop the fungus and prevent it from returning for a long time, maybe forever.

Over the counter so called medications will not work, the fungus will grow deeper into your tissue where you cannot see it while you are messing about with them. This tiny bottle is expensive, if I remember correctly the price is around $50.00 or so if you don't have insurance but it lasts for a long time.

This works. My daddy had this issue all the years I was growing up. This is the medicine that cures it. It is not a fast thing but then again, it's winter so you can wear socks and be fine come spring with bright, pretty and healthy nails.
The first option would be to make an appointment with a dermatologist.

An at home remedy would be tea tree oil. You can purchase tea tree oil at drugstores/natural food stores/etc... Use a few drops (enough to cover) on each toenail. It may cause your toenail to become dry/brittle so start off using it once a day and work your way up to 3x until it clears. Tea tree oil is a natural anti-fungal. Good luck! :o)

    Toe Nail fungus? (details inside)?

I noticed it today after I looked down at my feet. Its a white patch on the end of my big toe. My toe nail is cracked and kinda thick. I'm 15 and recently ive been doing alot of walking to lose weight lol. DO you think that the sweat from my shoes and socks couldve caused me to get a nail fungus? I told my dad about it and he said if it gets worse we'll just go to the doctor.

I believe its fungus starting to grow. When i go to the doctor, do you think i should bring it up about my social problem? I have like social anxiety and fear going to places and I think people are judging me because im overweight and always got teased about it. I dont go nowhere or nothing. I stay at home 24-7. Should I bring this up to him too? Cuz i know with school starting in 2 weeks, going to high school... its gonna be rough. Maybe he can give me some medication to help me get over it? I dont wanna go to counseling lol ( if I can help it )Toe Nail fungus? (details inside)?
First the toe nail fungus. See your doctor. If it is the common toe nail fungus the ONLY way to get rid of it is with a daily medication while your doctor watches your liver functions. The total regimen takes about 9 months to complete but it is GONE. The over the counter remedies DO NOT WORK. It must be attacked systemically (from the inside) not topically (from the outside).

Next your PROBLEM. It's far more serious than your nail fungus. You must see a counselor. There is no ';magic pill'; that will cure you. Everyone now a days thinks that you just take a pill and everything is fine. You need therapy and start it now!Toe Nail fungus? (details inside)?
It is not a social problem. Go to a doctor and get it treated.

Nail fungus can be difficult to treat, and repeated infections are common. Over-the-counter antifungal nail creams and ointments are available, but they aren't very effective.

    Oral medications

To treat nail fungus, your doctor may prescribe an oral antifungal medication, such as:

    * Itraconazole (Sporanox)

    * Fluconazole (Diflucan)

    * Terbinafine (Lamisil)

These medications help a new nail grow free of infection, slowly replacing the infected portion of your nail. You typically take these medications for six to 12 weeks but won't see the end result of treatment until the nail grows back completely. It may take four months or longer to eliminate an infection. Recurrent infections are possible, especially if you continue to expose your nails to warm, moist conditions.

Antifungal drugs may also cause side effects ranging from skin rashes to liver damage. Doctors may not recommend them for people with liver disease or congestive heart failure or for those taking certain medications.

    Other treatment options

Your doctor may also suggest these nail fungus treatments:

    * Antifungal lacquer. If you have a mild to moderate infection of nail fungus, your doctor may prefer to prescribe an antifungal nail polish called ciclopirox (Penlac). You paint it onto your infected nails and surrounding skin once a day. After seven days, you wipe the piled-on layers clean with alcohol and begin fresh applications. Daily use of Penlac for about one year has been shown to help clear nail fungal infections, but researchers found that it cured the infections in less than 10 percent of people using it.

    * Topical medications. Your doctor may also opt for other topical antifungal medications. In some cases, you may be advised to use these creams with an over-the-counter lotion containing urea to help speed up absorption. Topical medications usually don't provide a cure, but may be used in conjunction with oral medications.

If your nail infection is severe or extremely painful, your doctor may suggest removing your nail. A new nail will usually grow in its place, though it will come in slowly and may take as long as a year to grow back completely.
same happened to me..i play lots of soccer and the sweat and my tight soccer cleat caused it too..

one day i broke the nail, then it fell off and a new one appeared completely healthy..

the doctor also said it could have benn spread from someone

so think twice before sharing shoes or socks

Hi there my mum and i are on Lamisil tablets and we don't do any thing special, but drinking caffeine drinks such as coffee and cola and pepsi is best avoided as caffeine makes the tablets 20% less affective so it will take longer to clear the infection,

and don't take any vitamins or mineral tablets either while on them as they stop them working so then it would be a waste of time taking them!

other things to do is avoid too much sweet foods as a fungal infection thrives on sugar, but otherwise you will be ok and they do work but very slowly,

    Could this be nail fungus?

My thumb nail has a horizontal crack right down the middle. It is raised and where it seems like it is sliced... any ideas? Is there anything I can do for it? Thanks!!!Could this be nail fungus?
Do you mean from side to side or from tip to nail bed? If there is a pale greenish or yellowish color which seems to look like it's under the crack it is probably a fungus. Soak in 9 parts water with one part bleach (teaspoons full) for 2 minutes, While soaking push thumb nail against container to try to open crack a tad to let solution in. 2 to 3 times daily. Rinse and dry.

If it's not fungus, then you must've hit it hard against something causing the crack Some people have nails that are very brittle and if let grow too long can crack. You can go to a salon for a fix that will last quite a while in order to let nail grow out in one piece.

The basic premise behind this odd sounding natural toenail fungus treatment is to soften nails with beer, create an acidic environment with vinegar which is beneficial to good bacteria and deadly to fungus and then penetrate nails with specific beneficial bacteria to help kill and prevent further recurrences.

For those in a hurry, please download the Beer Soak Instructions, save it to your computer and print them out. You'll find them very useful.

    Essential Ingredients:

Acidophilus Sachets containing a specific strain of 125 billion organisms.

Guiness Stout beer or any other dark beer (Guiness is the one proven to work).

    White Vinegar

Basin big enough for your feet or hands

    Time

    Persistence and Consistency

    Natural Toenail Fungus Treatment Procedure:

In tub, pour 1 liter of room temperature beer into a basin

Add 1/2 a sachet which is 60 billion acidophilus and other strains.

Add 1 liter of White Vingear

Soak clean feet in the solution for 30 minutes before bed or when best for you.

On removing your feet or fingernails from the basin, file the nails down with a pumice stone or file

After each 3rd day, toss out the entire solution mixture and remake using the formula: 1 liter of white vinegar, 1 liter of dark beer and the remaining half of one sachet. This keeps the solution's ingredients in active live form. If too old, it will not work.

Repeat for 30 days every day. Do not skip a day for best results.

Do twice a day for faster results

    What to look for:

As fungus gets killed by this natural toenail fungus treatment, you will notice new nail growth from the nail base coming in clear. This is a good sign. Some people see clearing at the base within one week and some people see clearing at the base in one month. It all depends on how fast your nails grow and how often you soak them.

Make sure you do this toenail fungus treatment daily. Make it a routine. Watch some TV, read a book or wash the dishes for 30 minutes. Will anything heal nail fungus ?

The vinegar can be applied with a dropper bottle or if you prefer, you can soak a cotton Q-tip and apply the vinegar that way.

Next, this procedure will have to be continued untill the infected nail is grown right off the body. That could take 6 months or longer for an infected toenail.

It is important that not a single application is missed because if you do, any new nail that is grown that day will be susceptible to fungal reinfection.

You are not alone. I am 38 and have been dealing with ugly toe nails since I was a teen as well.

The problem is we carry an infection that is deep in the nail bed that causes this ugly color and thickness. Any topical solution wont work. According to my doctor, the only medication that does work is those pills you mentioned. Not only are they costly, but they can have issues with your liver. Since I am a drinker, I don’t want my liver having any extra issues aside from the alcohol! LOL

I have tried every single over the counter treatment as well as other suggestions I found such as vinegar soaks daily, salt water soaks and so many more I cant even tell you. None of them worked.

You must treat the fungus from the inside and from the outside. Treatment from the outside (topical) will help kill the fungus and provide temporary relief. To make sure the fungus does not come back, you need to also treat from within. Since nail fungus infections are normally an indication of a weak immune system, treatments from the inside help to build up your immune system. This way your body's natural defenses can help fight the fungus and prevent it from returning.

There are many fungus treatments available that contain one or two of the key necessary ingredients needed to successfully eliminate nail fungus. There is only one treatment available that contains them all. That treatment is Leucatin.

Leucatin is a safe and effective natural nail fungus treatment that is approved by the FDA. It's a ';two way'; treatment, taken both internally and topically. It is the only nail fungus treatment that contains all of the following key necessary natural ingredients: Melaleuca laterifolia (Tea Tree Oil), Zingiber officinale (Ginger Root), Panax quinquefolius (Ginseng Root), Hydrastis Canadensis (Golden Seal Root), Anasas omosus (Bromelain), Echinacea purpurea, Allium sativum (Garlic Bulb), Filipendula ulmaria (Meadowsweet), Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgo leaf), Llex paraguariensis (Mate), Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort), Valeriana officianalis (Valerian root).

Leucatin is produced by Selmedica Healthcare Corporation. They give the best guarantee in the business, a full ONE year money back guarantee.

I think your friend may have infected toenails maybe cause by a fungus.

The infected nail bed can release a discharge and cause the nail to discolour-greeny.

They need to go to a Chemist or doctor and get an anit-fungal spray or cream and follow the instructions.

Also tell them to trim their nails too as this is probly not helping.
Gross fungus. There are some medications available through the doctor's. Years ago my mom had a couple of nasty thick green toenails and the doctor removed them. When they grew back, they were fine! The fungus supposedly lives in the nail bed, so I'm not sure how that worked, but it did. I guess it gives the bed a chance to dry out so the fungus dies.

BTW, one way to help avoid nail fingus is to keep the nails short and clean. Sounds like your bud let his grow too long and was asking for trouble...
You need to hire domestics to handle these things. Mine are just fine. Plan ahead and pay your bills. Otherwise you could be fired and suffer a foreclosure on your mortgage. Ha ha ha ha.

How so you like me now? Timing and inside information is vital to success in investing. And if you don't invest, what are you? There are investors and cheap labor. Face it.

How do you like me now?
Cut the nails down so they arent long. Buy anti-fungal and anti-bacterial creams( from CVS or Rite-Aid type stores). Possible try to wear less sneakers and closed shes, possible sandals so that there isnt a chance of facilitation an environment for bacterium or fungi to grow

50/50 mixture of vinegar and Listerine
Vinegar soak daily and clean them up after each soak.
soak his feet in hot water for about a half hour then clean, cut, and spry them with foot stuffs
Go to the doctor there is medication for this.

What is a fungal nail infection?

A fungal nail infection occurs when a fungus attacks a fingernail, a toenail, or the skin under the nail, called the nail bed. Fungi (plural of fungus) can attack your nails through small cuts in the skin around your nail or through the opening between your nail and nail bed.

See a picture of a fungal nail infection.

If you are healthy, a fungal nail infection probably won't cause serious problems. But sometimes it may look bad, hurt, or damage your nail or nail bed.

A fungal nail infection could lead to more serious problems if you have diabetes or a weak immune system. Talk to your doctor about the best way to treat a nail infection if you have one of these problems.

What causes a fungal nail infection?

Yeasts, molds, and different kinds of fungi can cause fungal nail infections. Most are caused by the same type of fungus that causes athlete's foot.

Fungi grow best in warm, moist places, and they can spread from person to person. You can get a fungal nail infection from walking barefoot in public showers or pools or by sharing personal items, such as towels and nail clippers. If you have athlete's foot, the fungus can spread from your skin to your nails.

You are more likely to get a nail infection if you:

    Are older than 60.

Have diabetes or a weak immune system.

Have a nail injury like a hangnail or an ingrown toenail.

Wear shoes that make your feet moist or sweaty.

Live or work in a hot, humid place.

    What are the symptoms?

A nail with a fungal infection may:

    Turn yellow or white.

    Get thicker.

Crumble and split, and it may separate from the skin.

When you have a fungal nail infection, it can be uncomfortable or even painful to wear shoes, walk, or stand for a long time. The fungus could also spread to other nails or your skin. Over time, the infection can cause permanent damage to your nail or nail bed.

How is a fungal nail infection diagnosed?

Your doctor will diagnose a fungal nail infection by looking at the nail, asking about your symptoms and past health, and possibly doing tests to look for fungi. Finding out what is causing the infection can help you get the best treatment.

    How is it treated?

Whether to treat a fungal nail infection is up to you. If it is not treated, it won't go away, and it might get worse. But fungal infections can be hard to treat. If you do treat it, you could spend a lot of money, and the treatment might not work.

If you decide to treat a fungal nail infection, you can try an antifungal cream, lotion, or nail polish. You can buy some types without a prescription, or your doctor can prescribe a stronger one. You may need to use this medicine for a few weeks or for as long as a year. Even so, it may not get rid of the infection.

Antifungal pills give the best chance of curing a severe fungal nail infection, but they cost a lot and have serious side effects. You will need to see your doctor for regular testing if you take these pills. You should not take them if you have liver or heart problems.

How can you prevent a fungal nail infection?

Fungal nail infections often come back after treatment. It is important to take steps to prevent this.

Before bed, wash and dry your feet carefully. Then apply an antifungal product, such as Lamisil or Penlac.

Choose shoes that fit well and let your feet “breathe.” Let shoes dry for 24 hours before you wear them again.

Wear cotton socks. Change them if your feet get sweaty.

Do not share nail files or clippers, socks, towels, or other personal items.

Wear flip-flops or shower sandals in wet public areas, such as locker rooms or showers.

    Toe nail fungus-home remedies?
I got this advice in an e-mail, though I would go to the Dr. if it's really bad:

Listerine therapy for toenail fungus... Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.
Your healthcare provider can prescribe medicine for your fungal infection that you take by mouth. Treatment lasts 12 weeks. This medicine travels through your bloodstream to reach the fungus where it lives deep under the nail in your nail bed.

A prescription polish is also available. It must be applied to the infected nail daily for up to 48 weeks.

To find out if one of these medications is right for you, talk with your healthcare provider.

Some people use products not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for nail fungus infections, such as over-the-counter creams, lotions, and polishes from a drugstore or pharmacy. Others use home remedies, such as vinegar or other solutions. But these products may not work very well because they don't reach the fungus where it lives under the nail.
take a clove of garlic peel it mash it and put it on your nail let it sit .got it from medicinal herb recipies on the internet, you can verify it look it up.
oh my God, u need to see a Doctor before it gets bad
    Peroxide and water
    Tea tree oil
Apply tea tree oil 3x's per day with a q-tip. You will have to do this for at least a month or more. There is no quick cure.
Tea tree oil or VIcks vaporub applied daily after bath or shower.

Treatment takes while; you must continue until the toenails are 'clean'.
I don't think you'll be sucessful with any home remedies. The fungus is under the nail, you can get at it. You need prescription medicine.
Soak feet in cornmeal mush (mix cornmeal and warm water) for one hour. Here's a webpage with more information-
    wear socks
Vicks Vaporrub has been said to help...here is the deal: Any herbal/home/natural remedy you try which may work and tea tree oil/w or w/o lavender and listerine have anecdotal tales of success BUT you will have to do whatever it is for months before you see signs of improvement...for example you have the fungus IN you toe bed(and you do) so you will have to apply whatever topical you try until the nail is grown out entirely w/o evidence of fungus...this will indeed take months.

BTW: Any medical intervention will only be slightly faster. AND Carbs feed fungus try cutting back on them because toe fungus is a sign of some sort of systemic fungus lurking IN your entire body. It is simply growing under your toenails where it is visible. Dry white cotton socks and a different pair of leather shoes at least every other day would also be beneficial because it will keep your feet dry(er). Good luck..
i use a cheese scraper...then put it on my apple pie

Toenail Fungus - can spread quickly if unchecked. Try using a homeoapthic or home remedy first - Vinegar is probably the treatment with the highest success rate.

Nail Fungus thrives in warm, damp conditions - it does not like an acidic environment, so give it a vinegar home for a few months.

Keep up the treament for a month or so long after you ';think'; it has gone - the fungus can return.Has anyone had toe nail fungus before?

    Toe nail fungus/Manicure?

If you have a noticable nail fungus and you go to have a pedicure will they give you one? What can you do about nails when you can't afford the medicine??Toe nail fungus/Manicure?
I am currently studying to be a nail tech.

In my course we have been strictly told that if a customer comes in with a nail fungus that we are not allowed to do any service on them, and to refer them to a doctor.

We also have to disinfect and sanitise evey file and metal tool that we use on you so we there is no chance of cross contamination. This also includes the foot soaking bowl we have to soak it in a high grade disinfectant before using on the next client. They are very strict on this procedure.

It's not good how one bad nail tech can give the rest of us a bad name.

Any good nail tech will refuse to do a pedicure on you. If you can't afford the medicine how come you can afford to get your nails done???Toe nail fungus/Manicure?
My doctor and I have been trying to get rid of my toenail fungus for a year without success. It is EXTREMELY difficult to cure and the medication often damages the liver. I have to have blood tests every month to monitor my liver condition due to the medication. Also, the meds R expensive.

I have this condition, and I find it very frustrating that neither medical science nor alternative medicine has come up with a topical, OTC medicine to cure it, because it's fairly common. I have tried the expensive, not-covered-by-medicare anti-fungal drugs, but they don't give a permanent cure. I don't know about the pedicure situation, but all you can do is ask them anonymously on the phone. I just keep my toenails trimmed and ignore the fungus. If you go barefoot in the summer, paint your toenails.
First off, you probably got the toe nail fungus from the pedicure place!!

Didnt you see the spot on the National Nightly News about pedicures? How the woman caught something from the ';soak';, and a few women were dying from it as thier feet are rotting off!!

They dont clean those devices in which they soak your toes and feet, in fact, if you look in the bottom of them, they will have debris, sludge toe clippings, and other ';gunk'; in there that would discust anyone who saw that!

I would never let my Wife get a pedicure from anyone, lisenced or not!

Also, they use the same clippers on you that they use on people with other fungus and you could of caught it from them that way!

See if you can get a prescription of amoxcillian 500 mg and that ';may'; clear it up! Three pills a day. (Its an antibiotic).

(No I am not a Pysician, but, I know what works, and have seen it work).

    I wish you well...

Use Lamisil tablets. Unlike surface treatments, the medicine in Lamisil Tablets travels through your bloodstream and targets the fungus in your nails and nail bed. This can help you get clearer, healthier nails again. A nail fungus infection is an invasion of your nail bed by a live fungus. This fungus lives, feeds, and grows deep in your nail bed.

Many people try to get rid of the fungus by using over-the-counter surface treatments. However, most of these are not able to penetrate the hard surface of your nail in sufficient amounts to reach the infection. They may end up being a waste of money and time. Ask your doctor about getting an effective treatment from the start.
';Lamicil'; will clear it. Nutritionally you need to keep your B vits high to avoid a recurrence. If you're worried about toxicity from the fungal cream you can soak your feet for 20 mins daily in a solution of vit C (half teaspoon to about a gallon of water';. The dream clears the fungus and the C clears the toxicity, if any, of the cream.

Put the cream on in the morning when your feet are nice and dry. Do the soak in the early evening
Wear socks with your damn shoes first, and stop wearing outher people's. Oh yeah and uh, change your damn socks! Then do the vapo-rub thing.

    Nail Fungus - What works?

What works on nail fungus? I've tried lamisil, and the first time it worked but the fungus came right back. 2nd time I did 4 months of it, and it didn't work at all. I've also tried Leucatin (Herbal remedy, big ripoff...) and nail fungus no more. Nothing is working, and my case of it isnt nearly as bad as some I've seen. What works?Nail Fungus - What works?
Nail fungus is made up of tiny organisms (Tinea Unguium) that can infect fingernails and toenails. The nails of our fingers and toes are very effective barriers. This barrier makes it quite difficult for a superficial infection to invade the nail. Once an infection has set up residence however, the same barrier that was so effective in protecting us against infection now works against us, making it difficult to treat the infection.

More than 35 million people in the United States get this fungus. The fungus lives underneath the nail. The nail provides a safe place for the fungus and protects it while it grows, since fungus like dark and damp places. This is why it鈥檚 hard to reach and stop nail fungus.

The organisms can sometimes spread from one person to another because these critters can live where the air is often moist and people鈥檚 feet are bare. This can happen in places like shower stalls, bathrooms, or locker rooms or it can be passed around on a nail file or emery board. So, don鈥檛 share them. Nail fungus may also spread from one of your nails to other nails.

The best treatment of course is prevention. Keep your nails cut straight across. If nails are hard to cut, soften by soaking in salt water (use 1 teaspoon per gallon of water and then dry well). Keep feet dry and well ventilated. Be careful with artificial nails and be selective about choosing your manicurist. Ask about how they sterilize their instruments. See a podiatrist or your health care provider if you see signs of fungus.

Topical creams applied directly to the infected site are often used for less serious infections. Visit the foot care section of your local drug store chain. Creams include Lotrimin, Monistat, Nizoral, Tinactin, and Lamisil. If the topical treatments fail, more potent medications can be taken orally if your health care provider thinks it is necessary. Oral medications may have side effects, so tell your health care provider about any other medications, including birth control like the pill or Depo-Provera, if you are prescribed an oral medication for fungus.

The nails can reveal a lot about the body鈥檚 internal health. Healthy nails are often a sign of good health, while bad nails are often a tip off to more serious problems. A high protein diet may help your nails grow stronger and healthier.

    I'm not a doctor... just a Corpsman.Nail Fungus - What works?

Vick's has been getting a lot of publicity lately. It will probably take a while to work, though.
I know people who got fungus from their acrylic nails and some of the fungus won't go away. Check with your doctor what you can do about it. Good luck!
Dr Gott , the MD who ha a syndicated newspaper column, recommends Vick's Vaporub, and swears by it.
I took a prescription for about a year and it cleared it all up..but it was somewhat expensive.
I once used tea tree oil. I scraped away the part of the nail that was infected (as much as I could do) and then applied full strength tea tree oil... that seemed to be the end of it. I do believe that tea tree oil has anti-fungal properties. You could also try colloidal silver if you are feeling adventurous. Anyway, the oil really smells strong but, it may be worthy a try (plus it is inexpensive). Good luck.
Is the Lamisil a cream or a pill that you used? There are numerous over the counter anti fungals avail...some work better then others...each person is different where medication results are involved. There is also several oral medications that your doctor can give you...but these are expensive and you have to take them for long periods of time. My daughter developed a fungal infection in her finger when she was little...they prescribed a cream called Nizoril...her nail is normal now.

    Hope this helps

    Could this be nail fungus?

I've worn acrylic nails for over a year, but a couple months ago I noticed my middle nail was bright yellow and so was the skin under my nail (where you clean your nails). ive never remembered my nail was like that because polish was always covering it. Well a couple days ago I went to the shop and while the guy was taking my nails off 3 of my nails were bright yellow. And my middle finger, the line that seperates the white from the pink is indented on the side, like something poked it but nothing did. 2 days have gone by and all 5 of my right hands are yellow and so a a few on my left as well as the SKIN around it. Now thats the issue, normally It would look like I dipped my hand in something since my skin is yellow around the nail as well but I dont think so because its spreading from nail to nail. So my question is, are their any fungus's that make your nail bright yellow as well as the skin around it and under it? btw, theres no peeling, pain or thickening just this yellow stain.Could this be nail fungus?
What you have described could certainly be a nail fungus. When you place artificial nails over your own it is an open invitation for fungus and bacteria to grow between the two layers. Any warm, damp area can grow fungus.

Nail fungus is often very difficult to eliminate. There are topical nail fungus medications available over-the-counter which MIGHT work for you. I would call a halt to any false nail usage until this condition is eliminated. If it is a fungus, you could have it for life.

If all else fails, see an MD. There are also oral fungal medications you can get to cure fungal infections which may have progressed into your blood stream.Could this be nail fungus?
It sounds like you do indeed have nail fungus. You can get this stuff to paint on your nails that will kill it but it takes a while. Don't wear any fake nails for a while. They need to breathe.
I would go to the doctor just in case..good luck!

  • What really cures nail fungus?

I have heard tea tree oil, but nothing gets rid of it quickly.

You should probably get a prescription and stick with it.What really cures nail fungus?
Getting rid of finger nail fungus is easier in some ways, and more difficult in others. Many people will act on a finger nail infection long before they will start asking how to get rid of toe nail fungus, simply because toes can be kept out of sight, but ugly fingernails are a daily embarrassment. People start getting rid of finger nail fungus before the infection is too far advanced. However, it's much harder to get a topical treatment to stay on a fingernail when you鈥檙e using your hands all the time, and it's much harder to sit for 15 to 30 minutes every day with your hands soaking in a solution.

Pick any method for getting rid of finger nail fungus, or any advice on how to get rid of toe nail fungus. If you do any reading, you will quickly discover that all methods are fickle. VapoRub works for some and not for others. Stories of success with a vinegar soak abound; so do stories of failure. Some lucky people report success in weeks; some stress that you may have to keep at it for a year or more. Even the prescription medications have a relatively poor success rate. The bottom line is that curing nail fungus infection is difficult.

    No.

You need to go the doctor and get LAMISIL or SPORANOX pills. These are anti-fungal medications you take by mouth.

You will need to take these pills by mouth for a few months (since toe nails grow slowly and it takes that long for healthy nail to replace the bad pill)Can dettol help in Toe nail fungus????

No, topical solutions do not help becasue the fungus originates in the nail bed, UNDER your nail. You need to take a specific type of oral antifungal to treat it, and it could take at least 6 weeks before you see improvement. See a doctor. Good luck!

    Nail Fungus question?

Did any of you mothers develop some type of nail fungus after you had your baby? i got mine on my thumb, doesnt hurt or anything. I saw my dr already and he prescribed me lamisil and an ointment for the skin on my thumb. I was wondering how common this is...thanks.Nail Fungus question?
Have you taken antibiotic recently? This might have caused an overgrowth of fungus.

If the Lamisil doesn't work for you, an oral anti-fungal might work better.

Best of luck, and congrats on your baby!Nail Fungus question?
    It's unrelated to pregnancy.

Now do you suck your thumb? Ask as often excessive moisture and humidity create an environment prospicious for fungal infections.
not me, never heard of it. i'd be interested to know if anyone else has. i know yeast can over grow in some pregnant women, fungus is fungus, i guess it's possible.

gosh i hope the stuff works to get rid of it for you.
i am a nail tech ans and all my years of doing nails (17 yrs) i have never heard of pregnancy causing nail fungus. be careful taking oral medications for this, they have many side affects. keep your nail cut short and clean. i have had many older clientd with fungus on toe nails ans they have put vicks vapor rub on the nail everyday and after a while it started to go any.
have you been going to a nail shop? I hear those places or fungus breeders. If you do you must bring your own utensils or make sure they really sterilize things. I had this issue and it was because i had gone to a terrible nail salon.

  • Can the fungus that causes athletes foot live in a bottle of nail polish?

Not in it but if you are touching your feet, then touching the bottle, it could stay on the lid for awhile. No idea how long that can live though. best to wash feet very well prior to touching them and washing hands afterwards and wiping down the outside of the bottle. Can the fungus that causes athletes foot live in a bottle of nail polish?
get new nail polish... cause i wouldnt know. Can the fungus that causes athletes foot live in a bottle of nail polish?
    Nope.
no i doubt it i mean theres athlete foot fungus and then theres regular toe nail fungus well i got toe nail fungus from a nail salon where i sed ta go ta get pedicures any way i asked my doctor if he thought i should toss my nail polish he said no so im assuming that its safe for atheletes foot fungus also
no, the chemicals in nail polish kill the bacteria. you should probably still through out the olish though, just incase some bacteria got on the handle or something. the bacteria will die on the plastic, but until it does, it's still there.
I am not sure, and I have no proof, but I would think so. Unless the stink kills them.

    Hand fungus, and nail fungus?

any alternative remedy for hand and foot nailf fungus? My little brother nailf fungus have been bad for almost three years he has not treat them at all. How long will it take to get well if he get's treated now?Hand fungus, and nail fungus?
Tea Tree Oil or Cajeput Oil. Keep those areas clean and dry. It may take him awhile to get well if he has been sick that long. He may need to detox from the inside for candida while using the oils topically. I would be surprised if it clears up in 2 weeks.Hand fungus, and nail fungus?
I treated mine using dandruff shampoo. It has an ingredient that deprives the fungus of food. I washed using the shampoo and when dry I used Caneston lotion and it cleared up within days.
There are many things to try for nail fungus, vinegar, tea tree oil/ olive oil Vick's Vaporub are just some that are being used.
Hydrogen Peroxide will destroy the fungus.
Depends on how it's treated. There are pills you can take for nail fungus, but the results will take weeks or even months; but it can be cured, and you've probably seen the commercials on tv for prescription drugs for nail fungus a hundred times by now.

You say ';hand fungus';. If he has fungus growth on his hands present in areas other than his nails, surely you already know that there are both over-the-counter and prescription anti-fungal creams and sprays that can be used on the skin to quickly kill fungal infection on the skin.

What will take longer is the infection under the nails. The nails can be removed by a dermatologist, and the tissue underneath treated to quickly kill the fungus and then the nails grow back; but removing the nails is not often requested by patients, obviously.

Otherwise there is a common prescription medication for treated nail fungus that works, but takes some weeks to really do its job, and also you have to wait for the discolored nails to grow out as well.

I guess the real question is, why hasn't your little brother seen a doctor to look at his hands? And he's had this for years? Is he a minor? Sounds like parental neglect to me, if this is the case. If he has untreated problems like this, it wouldn't surprise me if he has other problems as well, as it doesn't sound like he's had regular medical care.
Hand and nail fungus treatment is very important. The sooner you begin treatment the better. If left untreated, hand and nail fungus can become very painful and unsightly. Unfortunately many people ignore it until the symptoms worsen.

One of the biggest mistakes we see in nail fungus treatment is trying a home remedy for nail fungus. Many patients spend months trying treatments like vinegar, bleach, rubbing alcohol and even Listerine. Unfortunately except in rare cases, these home remedies don鈥檛 work. And since you are wasting time trying them, your fungus can actually worsen.

Many patients have asked if prescription medications are safe. The two most popular prescription medications are Sporanox capsules and Lamisil tablets. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public health advisory in May 2001 concerning Sporanox (itraconazole) capsules and Lamisil (terbinafine hydrochloride) tablets for the treatment of nail fungus. The FDA concluded that there is strong evidence of congestive heart failure and hepatic adverse events with the administration of these therapies. Hepatic toxicity includes liver failure and death. Given the possible risks associated with both drugs, you need to look at better and safer alternatives.
A hand/skin fungal infection by a dermatophyte can be treated with a topical AZOLE cream that can be purchased over the counter. A fingernail infection is also known as Onchymycosis, this will require sustained treatment with a prescription antibiotic (Lamisil). Alternatives that will help alleviate symptoms of Onchymycosis included prolonged use of Azole creams and Salicylic acid but these will not cure the infection. Research is currently being done on laser therapy but these wont be available for a few more years.

Your little brother should really receive medical attention for this nail infection, although not life threatening it is still important to see a doctor/mycologist.

Can dettol help in Toe nail fungus????

My husband recently went to the foot doctor with a toe nail fungus. The doctor said to rub vicks vapo rub on the toe nails every night and then put socks on. This will clear up your toe nail fungus. Its a lot cheaper than medications that often have unwanted side effects. We appreciated her telling us of a home remedy rather than just writing a prescription. It works, but it will not clear up in a week. Be consistent and rub it on every evening. Hope that helps. Can dettol help in Toe nail fungus????
There is no quick remedy for nail fungus. Even the prescriptions that can have ';unwanted side effects'; can take up to a year for the nails to fully clear up. The problem is that most topical applications cannot penetrate the nail to the nail bed which is where the fungus lives. You are probably best with one of the oral medications, but your insurance is not likely to cover it. You can try anything, I have heard everything from vinegar soaks nightly to the Vicks vapo rub thing, but for the most part, people either decide to just live with it, or to treat with a medication like Lamasil or Penlac.

    Toe nail fungus.. nail removal?

i've had toe nail fungus for a while (pretty much all my toenails :-/)

and was thinking of my options, tried over the counter stuff and my doctor has said I could use lamisil but it can damage your liver and stuff

so was wondering if any one whos had this has had luck with toe nail removal? figure it'd be painful but better than risking damaging my organsToe nail fungus.. nail removal?
Hi, I am a nail tech. You can buy something that you drop between your nail plate and skin at a lot of nail salons. I can not remember the name of the product but it was something like, ';Fung-Gone';? Yeah, don't do the removal. Your nail would look pretty at all once you get it done.Toe nail fungus.. nail removal?
the fungus isn't hurting any of your systemic organs, and the results of toenail removal look MUCH worse than the fungus.
hiya. i recommend a foot spa and dry them properly and sprinkle some talc on em ... that helps
A coworker of mine had this done, he said it took a few times but it worked.
pour peroxide on them several times a day. Peroxide kills fungus.

Toe nail fungus comes from nail polish???

I noticed my toe nails are turning a light orange color at the very very top so I asked some one from Sergio's Spa and she said it was a fungus. So I got that cream you put on twice a day... a friend of mine said it was from nail polish, leaving it on too long. I'm a very very clean person so I am not sure why this is happening. :( Shoudl I throw out all of my shoes and socks?Toe nail fungus comes from nail polish???
Toe nail fungus is not initially in nail polish, unless the factory contaminates it. It is possible for fungus to be spread from person to person by using the same polish and same instruments for pedicures. It is always a good idea to have your own kit at the spa that you frequent. Most places have that options, now. It is always welcome at spas to bring your own nail polish. It is possible that if you don't ever have ';naked'; toe nails that they don't have enough exposure to oxygen. leaving the polish of one week a month can help the nail to be proper color as it grows the old out. As far as using the cream, it only works on 10% of people who have toe nail fungus and that is after religiously placing it on EVERY day, twice a day for one year. If you get the pill version, you need to take it for three months. The pill can be fairly expensive. Don' t throw out all your shoes and socks. You can wash them in the washer with regular detergent and hot water. The shoes that are washable should be washed, as well. If not washable, spray the anti-athletes foot spray inside them everyday before wearing. I realize this is long, but I hope it helps.Toe nail fungus comes from nail polish???
Do not throw out your socks and shoes. A fungus is an overgrowth of the candidia bacteria aka yeast., Use vicks vapo rub on your affected nails once or twice daily to get rid of it. For now leave the polish off your nails.
most likely, it is a stain from your nail polish; keep your shoes and socks! nail fungus usually doesn't occur unless there is damage to your nail. that is why (you ladies will not like this) alot of young girls get nail fungus from pedicures. Why? because although pushing back your cuticles and digging underneath the nails may make the nails look prettier, it loosens the natural seal that is there to protect your nails from bacteria and fungus. That's how you get nail infection.
no its just the polish because u leave it on there too long somtimes that happens to my finger nails
no dont throw out anything ive never heard of orange fungus on toe nails it may be from the polish it may have stained the nail but if it spreads i would see a doctor

    Toe nail fungus?

ok, i just recently figured i must have a toenail fungus. i can NOT get to the doctor at this time. but i've been spraying it with lamisil spray and have noticed that particular area of the nail is starting to peel back...it's just a thin layer of the nail, not the entire thing. should i let it naturally come off, or take it off? is it a good sign of healing?Toe nail fungus?
Slather on a layer of Vicks Vapo-Rub, then put your sock on over it. Do this every day until the fungus goes away. It works. I had bad toenail fungus and in 10 days it improved greatly. After 3 weeks it was gone--much better than the 6 month pill treatments, and a heck of a lot cheaper.Toe nail fungus?
Try Tea Tree oil. And you should let it fall off on it's own.
Try vaporub! Put some on it a couple times day. I have heard from alot of people it works better than any creams from the podiatrust. I wouldnt try the pills unless necessary. They can cause liver failure, I think I would rather deal with a little fungus.
I would say that it's progressing. It's very difficult to get rid of. Go see your doctor and get yourself started on taking the series of oral Lamisil treatments as soon as you can. Prescription required.
Toe nail fungus can sometimes be very aggressive. I contracted one once from a Podiatrist's therapy area! Lamisil wouldn't touch it. I ended up going to a dermatologist who treated it with pills, a topical cream, plus my toenail had to be removed! It took about a year to heal, but now it is all gone, and my nail grew back nice and healthy. I would really suggest getting to a doctor! Yes, cleanliness has nothing to do with it!! You can pick this nasty stuff up in any public area, especially fitness areas, gyms, pools, etc. Don't ignore it, it will just spread and get worse!!!
Lamisil is not approved for toe nail fungus. If you read label it will say for the skin around the toe. It is probably peeling because it is getting worse. My mother is using penlac nail laquer by prescription only. The insert says it will take 6 months to START working. Sp I seriously doubt a over the counter drug would work that fast.
I have nail fungus, and it is possible to have it go away after time. But athlete's foot medications nor tea tree oil nor vinegar nor a topical liquid will cure it. It will require a visit to a doctor - dematologist most likely.
A doctor once told me that iodine is the only thing that will go through the nail to the infection underneath. If you use it too often though (4-5 times in a day) it can burn the tissues and stay sore. You can get stainless iodine now, so it won't be noticeable. You could also use lamisil foot powder, which is a fungicide.
Toe nail infection with fungus is one of the most common problems in dermatology. Symptoms usually include a yellow nail with scaling, itching and redness of surrounding skin. It can affect anyone, but is more common in older people and those with diabetes or on certain medications.

There are prescription medications available that are quite effective for treatment. These drugs, however, carry a risk for liver damage. Therefore, they are best saved for the more severe cases.

Elon Dual Defense Antifungal formula is the strongest topical treatment for toe nail fungus. It is applied directly to the nail and surrounding skin. The infection is treated, the skin is soothed and subsequent infections may be prevented.

Onychomycosis, or nail fungus, is on the rise. It accounts for more than half of all nail disorders. One U.S. study concluded that it affects more than 18 percent of the population. For people who frequently go barefoot or are planning a beach vacation, the cosmetic aspects of toenail fungus are a primary concern. But the condition can also have serious consequences for people who have diabetes or a compromised immune system.

';Onychomycosis is neither trivial nor untreatable, as was once thought,'; says Georgeanne Botek, DPM, of the Cleveland Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

Toenail fungus is not pretty. The most common form, trichophyton rubrum, begins at the far end of the toenail, and grows inward. It can cause the nail to swell, turn yellow, white or even black. It can present as streaks, spots down the sides of the nail, or across and throughout the entire nail. The nail can grow fragile, chalky or crumbly鈥攊n some cases crumbling away altogether.

Fingernails get fungus too. Toenail infections, however, are more difficult to treat because the toenail grows more slowly. A nail fungus often spreads to other digits, and sometimes spreads to other sites (groin, skin, and scalp). Nail fungus can even be spread from person to person鈥攆or instance, family members. If you notice an infected nail, doctors warn against picking at it or even trimming it, both of which can cause the fungus to spread.

Modern shoe is breeding ground. Toenail fungus is not the product of poor personal hygiene. The microscopic fungus usually gains entry through some small trauma to the nail, and flourishes in the hot, damp environment of the modern shoe. Some minimum prevention can be accomplished by keeping the inside of your shoe dry, changing your socks and shoes frequently and using an absorbent or antifungal powder.

    there are a number of reasons why toenail fungus is more common today than it has been in the past. ';The aging of the population may account for part of it,'; she says. ';It affects 32 percent of the people between the ages of 60 and 70, and nearly half of all people by age 70.';

Other reasons may be the greater use of medications that suppress the immune system, deficient immunity caused by HIV infection, increasing exposure to pathogens in spas and public swimming pools, the use of tight-fitting shoes for fashion, and athletic activities such as long-distance running.

    Nail fungus has serious consequences. ';Onychomycosis impairs quality of life,'; says Dr. Botek. ';In several studies, patients with this condition reported significantly poorer general health, mental health, social functioning, and body pain than did people without this nail infection. Some developed a fear of social situations that exposed an infected fingernail or toenail.';

Patients who have diabetes or have deficient immune systems are at the highest risk of complications from onychomycosis. A fungal nail infection that arises in a person with diabetes, particularly someone with impaired nerve function in the foot, can increase the risk of death. Fungal nail infections can also create fissures that lead to bacterial infections.

Treatments clip fungus problems. Toenail fungus can be improved or eradicated with appropriate treatment. Newer oral antifungal drugs like terbinafine (Lamisil) and itraconazole (Sporanox) are highly effective and have few adverse effects, although care in prescribing is needed because of potential drug interactions.

    ';The oral antifungals are now the gold standard for treating and eradicating this condition,'; says Dr. Botek. ';They have revolutionized our approach to this problem.';

Topical antifungal agents are most effective when used to treat milder cases. These ointments are available in over-the-counter and prescription form, and may need to be applied daily for almost a year.

Conservative treatment for fungal infections in the nails may include periodic removal of the damaged portion of the nail and thinning out of the thickened nails to prevent pain to the patient. An infected toenail can also be permanently removed.

    ';The foot is the perfect incubator for fungal infection,'; ';and it is important that people take steps to prevent athlete鈥檚 foot and excessive sweating. It is also a good idea to pay attention to nail care and hygiene, and proper daily use of topical antifungals and powders.';
Disgusting... try washing your feet on a daily basis. If I ever got any form of fungus on my feet, I would chop them off. But that will not happen because I practice good hygene...

    Is nail fungus contagious?

Yes, it is. It can cause ringworm on skin and it can be transmitted to other people either by direct touch or touching surfaces you touched. Basically, if it's on your feet, wear socks to prevent contamination of the floors. If it is on your hands, keep them dry and warn people not to touch your hands, and don't touch moist surfaces. Is nail fungus contagious?
if you have a partner and are sexually active and you use your fingers during foreplay it can cause the fungi to spread to parts of their body.

Toe nail fungus treated w/ vicks vapor rub?

    does this work?

what are the EXACT directions to follow,

    cut the nail?

rub it thick, light, inject it somehow

how do you know if its too deep in there to work or not?Toe nail fungus treated w/ vicks vapor rub?
Oh yes, I remember this from a list I got in an email of odd remedies for different problems.

If I had the problem, it wouldnt hurt to try it. I'd just rub it in just as thin/thick as I put it on for a chest cold or under the nose for sinus problems. I think I'd put a white sock on (definitely not BLACK), once or twice a day and give it a week. Cant hurt. Cut nail only if it is too long, just as normal. Good luck.

Oh, the list suggested toothpaste to clean a dirty bathtub.Pepsodent went on sale, I bought 2 tubes, (used one) and not only did the tub sparkle, it smelled great too.

You decide.Toe nail fungus treated w/ vicks vapor rub?
never heard of it maybe a new remedy
file nails straight across, file nail too,rub the vicks on it or use aloe vera gel works great.
hi im jill,im a nurse and i never heard of vicks for toenail fungus. but ill tell u i have had it forever,im 46 , got it at 39, its a lack of something in your system but i have used sporanox and i saw a podiatrist too and he said no mater what u do it is gonna just come back sooner or later so i just have a foot spa or just soak your feet for like an hr and the thick part under the nail will get soft so use toenail clippers and just get it out, when its soft enough it does not hurt at all and u cant b lieve how much difference it makes just 4 a while. they have all this stuff on tv, forget it , just waisting cash. i soak my feet , well not enough but when they hurt i have 2 ans it is worth the wait till u can just kinda dig the thick part out. hope it helps. jill wow how gross was that first meeting huh lol i get **** like that all the time from people so no bother, and i know the feeling and the way it looks i paint my toes red all the time just so u cant really notice it. jill
It's not going to work, look for a nail fungus product at your local drug store or go to a foot doctor
i am not going to be nice...it does not work...at alll tea tree oil is suppose to but ...you put it on 3 4 times a day...the best thing to do is soak your feet in a solution or 1/4 bleach an hot water before you take a bath ..then you make sure the nails are clean and taken care of ,,,it does spread to other nails,,invest in a small Dremel tool and keep the hard thick nails shaved down as they will get thick...or...go to doc. and get drugs that can cause liver damage..alot of us have this ..do not know your age ..guess you either whent bare foot in the rain...or wore dirty tennis shoes...loveya %26gt;%26gt;IHave it too,,,constant battleITS a GOOD THING
Never heard of this one but I have heard of foot soaks in Hydrogen Peroxide.
How old are you? Don't try things you are unsure of.Go to this site. You can try the lamisil tablet.I hear it is pretty effective.

Sparys and creams may help temporarily because it's only getting to the surface of the problem

It's better to take something orally rather than topically that way the tablet can get into your bloodstream, and get to the root of the problem.
This is an odd remedy but some do claim that it works. A doctor has a column in daily papers that says his patients recommended it to him.

It won't hurt to try it. Trim the nail and rub it on and around the nail.

Try it for a week and see if there are any results, if not...try the regular antifungal treatments in the footcare aisle of your local drugstore.
Vicks? It doesn't make sense. Try Listerine.....it has bacteria killing agents. Soak your foot in it.
Ouch! I've never hard of anything like this. I would think it would burn or sting
honey you have to use antifungal cream....lol...who told you to use vicks?lmao
You need an antifungal cream or spray. Try canestan or tinaderm. Directions are on the pack.
