I have been told to trim the nail back as far as you can and still be comfortable. And then either soak in Listerine (yes, the mouthwash) or rub in Vick's Vapo-Rub. It's not an instant cure, but if you do this daily, it should give decent results in a relatively short time. What is good to use on nail fungus?
Prescription topical drugs such as ciclopirox (Penlac Nail Lacquer) and naftifine (Naftin) are generally much safer than systemic ones. But they need to be applied twice a day for 4 to 6 months on fingernail, 12 to 18 months on toenails. Even then, they quell only about 10 percent of infections. There are no nonprescription topical-drug options.
Preliminary evidence suggests that one herbal product, tea-tree oil, might work slightly better than the prescription topicals-but that's not saying much. Applying the oil twice a day and periodically filing the infected toenail killed the fungus in nearly 20 percent of patients. I hope this helps you. And good luck.
There is a great natural product called Fungus No More that you should get. It is an FDA approved fingernail and toenail fungus killer.
